The working rule is 75-90 cm (30-36 in) from countertop to the bottom of the shade — low enough to light the work surface and read as a line, high enough that the fixture stays out of sightlines across the island. In walk-through kitchens keep at least 2.1 m clear floor clearance under the lowest point, and confirm the final drop against ceiling height and the drawings before production.
